Mill Creek MetroParks’ Wick Recreation Area

A family-friendly recreational area located in Mahoning County, the James L. Wick, Jr. Recreation Area offers wet, adventure, sand and tot playgrounds with interactive equipment, batting cages, Dek Hockey, Par 3 golf course, disc golf, volleyball and tennis courts, softball and soccer fields, an outdoor amphitheater and a sled hill for year-round fun near Youngstown, Ohio.

Wick Recreation Center

The Wick Recreation Center is a multi-faceted, year-round destination offering everything you need for a fun and hassle-free experience! Whether you're planning a private event or attending public programs, the spacious community room and outdoor patio are perfect for gatherings. Need equipment? The team shop has you covered with rentals and more. With new restroom facilities and on-site recreation offices, the Wick Recreation Center is the ideal place to host events or simply enjoy a day of fun in the heart of the Mill Creek MetroParks.

Judge Morley Performing Arts Pavilion

The Judge Morley Performing Arts Pavilion, located in the Wick Recreation Area of Mill Creek MetroParks, is home to the popular "LIVE! at the Morley MetroFest". This 3,000-square-foot pavilion, with a 1,600-square-foot stage and a 2.5-acre lawn seating area, offers a perfect spot for family-friendly evening performances. Featuring a lineup of fantastic local and regional bands, these free concerts invite you to bring your lawn chairs, blankets and friends to enjoy live music under the stars. Food and beverages are available for purchase, making it a delightful summer outing for all ages.

Dek Hockey Rink

The Dek Hockey Rink offers a fun, active way for both youth and adults to enjoy a fast-paced variation of hockey played with a ball on foot or inline skates. Thanks to the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and community support, the rink is a “FREE PLAY” facility available on a first-come, first-served basis, unless reserved, making it a great spot for spontaneous fun and physical activity.

Par 3 Golf Course

The Par 3 Golf Course at Wick Recreation Area is a popular 18-hole course perfect for golfers of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're looking for a quick round, participating in an event or joining a camp or clinic, it’s a fun and accessible spot to enjoy the game.

Tennis Courts

The Wick Recreation Area offers three artificial grass, sand-filled tennis courts, including one with a backboard for practice. The courts are lighted for night play, making them a great spot to enjoy tennis day or evening.

Batting Cages

The Wick Recreation Area features four hardball and three softball batting cages, offering a range of speeds from slow to fast, perfect for players of all skill levels. Bats and helmets with facemasks are available for rent at no extra cost.

Volleyball Courts

The Wick Recreation Area offers three sand volleyball courts, perfect for a game with friends or family. The courts are lighted for night play, so you can enjoy volleyball fun well into the evening.

The Juliana Kurinka Children’s Play Area

The Juliana Kurinka Children’s Play Area at Wick Recreation Area offers four distinct playgrounds for children of all ages, including Splash Pad, Adventure, Sand and Tot Playgrounds. Designed for interactive, physical and social play, the area features equipment tailored to different age groups, with designated play spaces for tots (ages 2-5) and older children (ages 5-12). It’s the perfect spot for families to enjoy a fun and safe environment where kids can explore and play together.

Cold Weather Outdoor Activities

During the colder months, Wick Recreation Area transforms into a winter wonderland with activities like sledding and cross-country skiing. The sled hill offers fun for all ages, with a special Hobbit Hill for children 48" and under. There’s no charge for sledding, but be sure to bring your own sleds, as rentals are not available. For cross-country skiing enthusiasts, skiing is offered at several MetroParks locations, including the Par 3 Golf Course and nearby trails. Skiing is dependent on natural snowfall and available during daylight hours, making Wick Recreation Area a great winter destination for outdoor fun.
