The Youngstown State University Concert Band and Wind Ensemble will present their final concert of the 2024-25 season on Thursday, April 17 at 7:30pm at Stambaugh Auditorium. This special performance will showcase a diverse array of works, blending timeless classics with fresh, contemporary voices.
The Concert Band will deliver an exciting mix of musical styles featuring beloved works by Vaclav Nelhybel and Ralph Vaughan Williams, as well as modern favorites by Rossano Galante and Viet Cuong. Adding to the excitement, the band will perform selections from Wicked, bringing the magic of the Broadway hit to life.
The Wind Ensemble will explore music with heart, performing works by Percy Grainger, David Maslanka, Cait Nishimura, Frank Ticheli, Dana Wilson, and Jacob Potts. Andrea Richard, winner of the 2024-25 Dana Young Artist Competition, will be performing the first movement of Maslanka’s Concerto for Saxophone.
The concert will conclude with a world premiere by Jacob Potts, a senior music composition major at YSU and winner of the annual composition contest in honor of the late Dr. Stephen Gage. Graduate conducting student Benjamin Hemming has worked closely with Potts to bring this piece to life for its debut performance.
