The power of storytelling in communication and branding will be the focus of the Youngstown Press Club meeting on Thursday, May 15. Paul Furiga, president and chief storyteller at WordWrite, a Pittsburgh communications agency, will speak to the group at a luncheon beginning 12:00pm at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor. His topic will be: “Unleashing Your Most Potent Communication Asset: Your Capital S Story.”
The event is open to journalists, public relations professionals and writers of all kinds. It is sponsored by Pecchia Communications, a Canfield-based public relations firm. Furiga is a nationally recognized communications strategist and best-selling author. Before moving into public relations, he spent 20 years in journalism, including the last four as editor of the Pittsburgh Business Times. He wrote and edited more than 20,000 stories, covering everything from local crime scenes to White House presidential campaigns. He later served in a leadership role at Ketchum, one of the world’s largest public relations firms, where he advised high-profile clients such as Alcoa, Firestone, Delta Air Lines and Rutgers University. In 2002, Furiga founded WordWrite, an award-winning agency that helps organizations uncover and share their “Capital S Story” – the core narrative that explains why someone should buy from, work with, invest in or partner with them. Furiga’s book, Finding Your Capital S Story: Why Your Story Drives Your Brand, will be available for purchase at the event, which will conclude with a book signing. He also hosts Storylines Live, a podcast focused on success driven by storytelling for companies in complex industries.
Advance reservation and payment for the May 15 event is required by May 7. The cost is $30 for Youngstown Press Club members, $35 for non-members. Register at youngstownpressclub.com. A portion of the proceeds from Press Club events supports the club’s college scholarship fund.
