Youngstown Press Club Luncheon

Thursday, October 17, 2024 @ 12:00 pm

Youngstown Press Club

Protecting journalists’ rights will be the theme of an October 17 Youngstown Press Club luncheon. The featured speaker will be Gunita Singh, a staff attorney with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. The luncheon will begin at noon at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, 151 W. Wood St.

In her role at the Reporters Committee, Singh works on litigation and policy, primarily concerning state and federal freedom of information laws. She also helps reporters and news organizations with records requests. The Reporters Committee is a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization that provides free legal services and resources to, and on behalf of, journalists. The committee offers training concerning legal issues journalists may face when covering elections. Having grown up in Palo Alto, Calif., Singh received her undergraduate degree from Boston University and her law degree from Georgetown University. Before joining the Reporters Committee, she was an attorney at the Washington, D.C.-based Property of the People, an organization dedicated to government transparency.

To register for the luncheon, visit youngstownpressclub.com. Pre-registration is required. The reservation deadline is October 10. The cost is $30 for Youngstown Press Club members; $35 for non-members. The event is sponsored by the Edward M. Barr Speaker Series. A portion of proceeds from YPC events goes to the club’s college scholarship fund. The club was re-established in 2018 to promote journalism and related professions in the Mahoning Valley.
