Youngstown as a Gretna Green – Bites and Bits of History
Thursday, August 19, 2021 @ 12:00 pm
Mahoning Valley Historical Society will debut “Youngstown as a Gretna Green” in its monthly Bites and Bits of History online video presentation at noon on Thursday, August 19, 2021. The program will explore the history of Youngstown as a destination for many Pennsylvanians to elope in the early 1900s and how a whole new industry sprung up from these marriages.
The main presenter, Roslyn Torella, is a local author and unofficial historian for the Village of Lowellville for the past 8 years. She has earned a bachelor’s degree in labor relations from Youngstown State University and later received her master’s degree in business administration, focusing on management.
This monthly public outreach program continues to be presented online. The public will be able to view this video presentation on the MVHS YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDHqcfsLJNsV5s-bnahmTNA/videos. MVHS looks forward to hosting its September 16 Bites and Bits of History lunchtime program IN PERSON again at Tyler History Center. More details will be shared on its website at https://mahoninghistory.org/events/.
