On Sunday, May 5 at 2:00pm, the Emerging Artists of Opera Western Reserve (OWR) will present the children’s opera The Bremen Town Musicians in the Ford Family Recital Hall at the DeYor Performing Arts Center.
General Boom, a musical retired army donkey, is on his way to the town of Bremen to start a new band. In his travels he runs into a rooster, a cat, and a dog who have all been turned away from their homes. General Boom invites the outcasts to join him on his journey to Bremen and learn to work together as a team to overcome their circumstances. The audience will learn along with their new friends that through friendship, cooperation, and respect for others – working together is far better than facing problems alone. This operatic version of The Town Musicians of Bremen contains music by Jacques Offenbach, Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, Sir Arthur Sullivan, and Giuseppe Verdi.
This educational and entertaining production is appropriate for children of all ages. At the conclusion, the cast will meet and interact with the audience. The show features stage direction by Robert Pierce.
The Opera Western Reserve Emerging Artists travel around the tri-county area to perform at local schools and camps. Opera Western Reserve (OWR) presents the only locally-produced, professional opera in the area with an annual performance each November. Previous performances include Lucia di Lammermoor, Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, and La Boheme.
