Polka and Kolo Dance Lessons
Monday, April 1, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
In preparation for its 9th Annual Simply Slavic festival, organizers are offering dance lessons sponsored by the Croatian Fraternal Union of America Lodge 66. Lessons are taught by two of Youngstown’s most experienced teachers volunteering their time to make this once-a-year class happen. Kathy White, director of Od Srca Adult Tamburitzans will teach the kolo or circle dances of the Southern Slavic nations and Aundréa Cika Heschmeyer, director of Polish Youngstown, will teach the polkas and obereks of the Northern Slavs. No experience needed as these volunteers will teach the simple techniques for rookies and the flashy moves for experienced dancers. Don’t have a partner? No worries! Many of these dances are done in groups.
Classes will take place on Mondays, April 1, 8, & 15 at St. George Croatian Center, 3200 Vestal Rd, Youngstown, OH 44509. Doors open at 5:00pm with classes running from 5:30pm-6:30pm.
Donation requested is $15/couple or $10/single for one class or $40/couple or $25/single for the series. Proceeds to benefit the annual Simply Slavic Scholarship Fund. Water provided, but a cash bar is available. For more information, call 330-333-1441.
