The “Pierogi of the Valley 2019 Cookoff” will take place at Tyler History Center on Sunday, October 13, 2019 from noon to 4:00pm. This fundraising event will benefit Recipes of Youngstown Veterans Scholarship at the YSU Foundation as well as the Mahoning Valley Historical Society.
Pierogi of the Valley 2019 Cookoff invites amateurs and professional cooks to enter this judged competition to determine the best pierogi in the Mahoning Valley. Participants may include individuals, churches, restaurants, etc. There will be two categories—Traditional and Dessert. Competition cooks will have their event admission waived. For the public, event admission will be $8 in advance for six, tasting-size pierogies, or $10 at the door. Additionally, sausage sandwiches will be available to purchase and soft drinks, coffee, and iced tea will be included with admission.
There will also be a “Pierogi Auction,” in which tickets will be $5 each. A dozen pierogies from each participant will be frozen and placed in a cooler for the lucky winner to take home.
