YSU’s University Theatre will conclude its 60th anniversary season with the production of “Once Upon a Mattress,” a whimsical, enchanting musical that promises a lighthearted and entertaining journey through the kingdom of merriment and happily ever after. Written as a humorous adaptation of “The Princess and the Pea,” “Once Upon a Mattress” is set in a 15th-century fairy tale kingdom ruled by the devious Queen Aggravain. The Queen is in search of a princess to marry her son, Dauntless, and has decreed that no one in the kingdom can marry until her son has. However, she has one trick up her sleeve: the princess must pass the Queen’s impossible “tests” to prove she’s worthy of Dauntless. Supported by a number of catchy tunes, hilarious twists and turns, and a dash of romance, this musical promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats in the Queen’s pursuit of a princess.
Performances will be April 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 7:30pm, and April 7 and 14 at 2:00pm in the YSU Ford Theatre in Bliss Hall.
