Glow the Yo! Community Bicycle Ride

Saturday, October 26, 2024 @ 6:30 pm

Glow the YO

After taking a rest last year, CycWard Bike Club’s annual autumn community ride, Glow the Yo, will be back and brighter than ever. Join riders of many ages and abilities on a fun, family friendly night ride on Saturday, October 26. Riders will meet at 6:30pm at CycWard Bike Shop (1205 Elm St., Youngstown, OH 44505) and the ride will begin at 7:00pm. After the ride, participants are invited to continue socializing at Dalia’s Caribbean Kitchen for food and refreshments. YoGo Bikeshare will be making a limited number of e-bikes available for rental; information about how to make a reservation is shared below.

Glow the Yo provides participants with an opportunity to connect (or reconnect) with the joy of bicycling and to experience and explore the physical environment in new ways. This year, Glow the Yo will also highlight recent bicycle safety improvements throughout downtown Youngstown as well as the city’s new e-bike rideshare company, YoGo Bikeshare. The route is an 8 mile loop starting on the northside of Youngstown at CycWard Bike Shop on Elm St. and concluding at Dalia’s Caribbean Kitchen, also located on Elm St.

To make Glow the Yo’s return special, this year there are two opportunities to win $50 gift cards to local restaurants. The first category is for the rider with the Brightest Bike, and the second category  is for the rider with the Best Decorated Bike. The gift cards are generously donated by the Out-Spokin’ Wheelmen Bicycle Club. All participants will receive free bike lights courtesy of Eastgate Regional Council of Governments.

Safety is central to ensuring that everyone has a good Glow the Yo experience. Helmets are required to ride. Bikes should have front (white) and rear (red) reflectors. Additional front and rear lights are encouraged since the ride will be occurring after sunset.

Glow the Yo was created to celebrate cycling and community. CycWard is grateful for the continued support from the City of Youngstown, the City of Youngstown Police Department, Youngstown 3rd Ward Councilperson Samantha Turner, YoGo Bikeshare, the Out-Spokin’ Wheelmen, and Eastgate Regional Council of Governments.
