The Ceramics Program in the Youngstown State University Department of Art presents Empty Bowls YSU Charity Event at the McDonough Museum of Art on Saturday, December 1. There will be seating at 11am, 12:30pm, and 2pm. Online tickets are $15 each, tickets at the door are $20. Seating is limited. Proceeds benefit The Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley.
Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger, personalized by artists and art organizations on a community level. The project is an opportunity to help feed the hungry in our community. Local artists have generously donated their time and talent to create handmade bowls for the event. Attendees choose an “empty bowl” in exchange for their donation and receive a simple meal to enjoy. The bowl is meant to be taken home as a symbol of their participation in helping feed those in need in Youngstown. The Ceramics Program in the YSU Department of Art hosted open studio workshops throughout the year for students and local volunteers to create handmade ceramic bowls. When you purchase a ticket you have a chance to choose one of these unique, handcrafted vessels by local ceramic artists.
One ticket includes a handmade bowl and a hot meal with vegetarian options. Purchase tickets online at https://emptybowlsyoungstown.eventbrite.com. Arrive at the McDonough Museum of Art during your scheduled seating time. Pick out your favorite handmade bowl from the hundreds available. Your empty bowl selection will be wrapped up for safe transportation home. Select your choice of locally made soup, bread, a drink and cookie from some of our best restaurants and bakeries.
Secure parking is available in the YSU Wick Avenue Parking Deck. Take the level 3 bridge to the back entrance of the McDonough Museum. For more information, call the McDonough Museum of Art at 330-941-3701.
