The Dana School of Music will present Mozart’s opera Così fan tutte for one weekend, opening Friday, April 21, through Sunday, April 23, in The Spotlight Theater at Youngstown State University. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30pm, while the Sunday matinee performance is at 2:00pm.
The opera, libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, will be sung in Italian with supertitles and recitatives in English. It tells of two young soldiers who accept an older friend’s wager that the woman they love will not remain faithful in their absence. They return in disguise and woo each other’s fiancée with Mozart’s beautiful melodies and surprising success.
The performance of Così fan tutte is double cast and will feature the following students on Friday, April 21 and 23: CJ Thompson (East Cleveland); Ferrando, Emilio Santiago (Hermitage, PA); Palmer Stillio (North Huntington, PA); Brianne Samson (Sharon, PA); Jaelynn Mack (Dayton); and Justine Snowden (Ohioville, PA). The April 22 cast includes CJ Thompson (East Cleveland); Emilio Santiago (Hermitage, PA); Austin Angus (Niles); Amanda Bertilacci (Niles); Rachel Gardner (Cleveland); and Chloe Downey (New Waterford).
Dr. Misook Yun directs Youngstown State University’s opera program. For the performance of Così fan tutte the stage director/scenic designer is Susan Foster; Kathy Miller provides piano accompaniment; lighting designer, Zoe Nocera; costumer, Katherine Garlick; and Theater manager, Ryan Fitzpatrick.
