Mahoning Valley Historical Society announces its January Bites and Bits of History lunchtime program at Tyler History Center. “Weird Moments in Cleveland Sports: Bottlegate, Bedbugs, and Burying the Pennant” will be a free presentation at noon on Thursday, January 19, 2023. The program will be presented by author and journalist Vince Guerrieri.
Cleveland sports fans have seen more than their share of weird, wild, and random events: A pitcher struck by lightning on the mound, a wrong-way basket, the player who was traded for himself, a victory thanks to a swarm of insects, a loss capped with a shower of beer bottles, “The dumbest man in pro sports” … Phew! And we haven’t even gotten to the 10-Cent Beer Night riot yet! If you can’t laugh about it, what else can you do?
Vince Guerrieri is an award-winning journalist for the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram and Medina Gazette. His writing also appears regularly in various regional and national magazines and online publications. A native of Youngstown and graduate of Bowling Green State University, he is the author of three books on Ohio sports history.
Bites and Bits of History lunchtime programs are sponsored by the John and Loretta Hynes Foundation.
