Youngstown State University and its student organization, The Youngstown Environmental and Sustainability Society, is partnering with the Ohio Lepidopterists, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and Ohio Biological Survey to present the 22nd Annual Butterfly Identification and Monitoring Workshop. It will run from 10:00am to 4:30pm (registration and snacks at 9:30am). Sessions are concurrent so participants can focus topics of primary interest to them.
One session will include extensive identification training covering every butterfly likely to be seen in Ohio. Another will include topics such as plants that butterflies depend on, life cycles, and gardening to attract butterflies. Other topics include highlights of the 2018 season, how to set up and monitor your transect, telling moths from insects, how to preserve specimens, population trends, etc. There will be kits to assist beginning monitors, handouts, and time for networking with other enthusiasts. Specimens and posters will be on display.
Registration includes lunch and snacks. In order to insure lunch, registration must be received by March 16th. Students are encouraged to attend at no charge but must pre-register to be assured of handouts etc.
