83rd Annual Juried Student Art & Design Exhibition

Friday, March 29, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

McDonough

The 83rd Annual Juried Student Art & Design Exhibition sponsored by the Student Art Association features works by students enrolled in the Department of Art at YSU. The exhibition opens on March 29 and continues through April 12 at the John J McDonough Museum of Art. Artists will be honored at a reception and awards ceremony on Friday, March 29 from 5:00pm-7:00 pm.

Awards presented at 6:00pm during the opening reception range from cash awards to gift certificates. Local businesses and individuals have generously supported the annual exhibition each year. Award categories include, photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, digital media, and graphic and interactive design. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the strength, breadth and diversity of YSU’s Department of Art. The awards reception and ceremony are free and open to the public.

We are honored to have as the juror for the exhibition, Imin Yeh. She is an Assistant Professor of Art at Carnegie Mellon University and an interdisciplinary and project-based artist working in sculpture, installation, and participatory events. Her projects use Print Media as a technical tool for realizing the ambition of large-scaled work and Print as a conceptual strategy for exploring free, exchange, and craft-based economies. The projects utilize repetitive handcraft and mimicry as a strategy for examining the issues around the unseen labor and production that lies behind our many unconsidered everyday objects. Recent exhibitions include the San Jose Museum of Art, Asian Art Museum (San Francisco), and at the Contemporary Jewish Museum (San Francisco). She has been an Artist in Residency at Montalvo Art Center (Saratoga, CA), Blue Mountain Center (New York), Sandarbh Artist Workshop (Partapur, India), and at Recology San Francisco. Yeh is the
recipient of a Eureka Fellowship from the Fleishhacker Foundation and an Individual Artist Grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission.

The McDonough Museum of Art is located on the campus of Youngstown State University. Parking is available in the M30 deck for a nominal fee. Hours at the McDonough Museum of Art are Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00am until 4:00pm. The Museum is open to the public and admission is free.
