Green Beer Day – Downtown Youngstown
Friday, March 2, 5:00pm
O’Donold’s Irish Pub & Grill, 122 W. Federal Street, Youngstown
At approx 5:45pm Green Beer Engine #1 will arrive on Federal Street — accompanied by Bagpiper Stephen Holter, the renowned Burke School of Irish Dance dancers and our master of Ceremonies – Youngstown’s highest-ranking, Honorary Irishman Mayor Tito Brown! The tanker will be filled with green beer brewed with a Dublin recipe. That hose will dump the 9,000 gallons of beer needed for the holiday into the big subterranean receptacles underneath the building to supply the thirsty crowds through March 17. The tanker will receive the official Catholic Beer Blessing from Rev. Kieran Fergus, O.P. of St. Dominic Parish, Youngstown. Serving as the event’s grand marshal and wearing o’ the green, Mayor Brown then will officially get the season of celebration started when he attaches the hose from Green Beer Engine #1 to the pipe work at O’Donold’s. The renowned Burke School of Irish Dance will perform. The Burke Alumnae will perform a traditional Céili group dance. Then bring the audience up and teach them a social céili. This Irish folk dance consists of circles and lines that anyone can participate in! Shaffer Brothers Band will rock the house until 10pm with their classic Celtic music. No cover. Complimentary beer samples, delicious Irish food and drink specials add the needed sustenance.
